Stereoscopy Knowledge Base

How does stereoscopy work and how is it developed? I've been looking through websites and can't find a clear answer to either of the two questions. Wikipedia does not help.
How do i know if my PC screen is equipped with Stereoscopy(3D)? i have just bought the game, James Cameron's Avatar, which you can play in 3D but it states that your Computer screen must be equipped with Stereoscopy. But i am not should if my screen has got it, so was just wondering how you would find that out? Cheers Steve
Does someone knows how to do a wiggle stereoscopy? Like this: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3464/3364409850_1b8cf89a6b_o.gif because i've tried with StereoPhotoMaker but i just can't add the effect, my image only goes side by side without sense. Please help.
Doppler effect?? Stereoscopy?? Science fair? Can you please define the Doppler effect and stereoscopy in simple terms? I can't really understand it... And in your opinion, which one would make a better science fair project? Thanks. =]
