3d Cad Drawings Knowledge Base
I have a full sketch book, 3D renderings & CAD drawings of furniture designs, how do I align myself w/ a buyer I am an experienced architectural designer (commercial, educational, industrial...). The realm of furniture design is a release for me at the end of the day. In turn, I have compiled a full sketchbook, 3D renderings of my favorite collections, and CAD drawings. How do I market these designs? Find a "friend of a friend" who is interested and hope they have wealthy friends. This would be a start, but I am looking for a "durable competitive advantage" over another "Joe" in the same boat as me. Should I, if possible, sell the entire collection? Or am I way off, and is there another direction I should be considering? I've toured production facilities, continue to research products/material, and complete designs frequently. I am a designer not a marketing major. How should I align myself with this network? I'm interested in capitalizing on these designs, how do I connect the dots?
3d drawings without using cad? Are there any programmes to make 3d drawings ie: a livingroom including tables & lights ,tv etc that are not as compex as cad.
2D drawings from 3D CAD models? I have a piece of equipment constructed out of many parts drafted in autocad 08. Is there any way that I could make 2D plans for each part based on their 3D models? The foundry can't work off of 3D models, they need 2D blueprints. Thanks for your answer louis, but viewports only give you different perspectives of the 3D model. I want to actually convert them to 2D drafts.
How do engineers test their prototypes and ideas from CAD drawings? Do engineers have a program where they can import the 3D CAD drawing and test it for physics and desired performance? Is there an industry standard simulation software for these things? If engineers design an engine or parts of an engine what is the simulation environment they test it in? Please let me know your ideas and mention any software you might have heard of that is used in the (mechanical/electrical/auto) engineering industry - from laying out oil hoses for a piston to creating a rotating crank for that piston. Integration of circuits and electronics with this mechanical simulation would be ideal as well. I would like to design the "under the hood" portion of the car with this software (designing the body would be nice too). I suppose you would be able to design something like a toaster, shaver, iron or a lawn mower as well. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!!!!!!
Simple 3D CAD software - free or cheap? What's a simple CAD software I can use to design simple stuff like a bird house or a chicken nest box? I want to make nice technical drawings in 3d, but don't need all the extras that expensive CAD software offers.
How much would tanning bed 3d CAD files w/ wiring diagrams from a major distributor be worth? How much would tanning beds in solidworks/autocad format be worth, lets say it was from 5-8 beds types from a major tanning bed company. If they were slightly modified, could they be changed in the slightest way and a new company be formed? Creating a new line of tanning beds? Are drawings like these valueble? How much do you think they could be sold for, i'm sure there are people out there who would like to start their own tanning bed manufacturer.
in architecture office: 3d a-cad modeling is used as basis for design and only then, on to 2d drawings? I graduated 10 years ago and haven't worked in an office since then. I am picking up my career again and want to arrive not so green to an office as an entry-level employee. In ten years much has happened in autocad [and the way it is used in an office...], and I wonder where to focus my knowledge of the [autocad tool] so that I have an idea already of how the process works from 3d to 2d etc. So, is the model understood more as a -sales/rendering and measure ratification tool, or is it now more used as, [the basic draft] from which detailed plans are later drawn. I have taken courses on autocad -lately, they have been very useful, but they focus on the commands etc, and not on how are they used in such a situation--- self help books are not really helpful either. thanks for the answers
3d modelling for games, good programs? i need a modelling program that can design 3d models for games, with arma 2 being the main one. It being free would be nice as these don't need to be really high detail models, and quite simple as the closest thing I've done to this is CAD 3D drawings on pro-desktop, solid works, etc... . Also what is a good map editor/creator for arma2 etc.. (not the mission editor)
is a dwg file 2D or 3D CAD? I am being asked to send a dwg file to be opened in AutoCAD 2007 but when I convert and send a 3D file they cannot open it? Is it because dwg files are 2D drawings?
please help me to choose the best CAD Course.? im wanting to get into steel manufacturing its fascinated me for years and was wanting to become a Designer for casting molds. Which is the best CAD Course to go with in auto-CAD 3D or Inventor doing parametric drawings. which is the most popular drawing technique in this type off process. Please help me which is the best thanks.
Where can I find true aircraft engineering drawings for my thesis ? Everything is in the title. My thesis is about crashworthiness of a low wing single engine light aircraft. I just need rough estimate not the very refined details. The aim is the inertia constants of several components of the aircraft. Drawings, external surfaces wiht accurate dimensions, 3d CAD, a table of idividual inertia and CG position of main components (wing, engine, tail) would be fine also.... I have heard about a game, X-plane, that has accurate modelling of the outer surface, is it reliable for that ? I am ok for to do the study in partnership with a Company.
What CAD program is best for creating theater stage/lighting plots? I have no CAD experience, so I'm wondering what program would be best to learn? I heard VectorWorks is popular. Are CAD projrams used mainly to create 3D modeling, or are they used for line drawings like this?: http://accad.osu.edu/~elee/D%2BP%20Lighting/Pro5/lightplot.jpeg
Which Computer is Better? I know that the AMD Turion is not as good as the Intel core 2 duo but does the 6gb of ram it has make up for it or is the intel with the 4 gb better. I'm going to be doing some Auto cad drawings and 3d modeling as well as some medium gaming but noting heavy. hp dv6-1280us http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01760952&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN#N262 hp dv7-2170us http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/notebooks/dv7t_series/rts/3/storefronts/NV025UA%2523ABA?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
Cad Drafter? I'm currently a college student who finished Autocad 2D and working on Autocad 3D in my community college(2D is practically an introduction to autocad while 3D refers to more 3D drawings and more onto rendering objects and future presentations.) I was wondering if this is all I need to be a drafter or are there more specifications in order to be a drafter?
Industrial Design with Bachelor's degree in Engineering? I'm currently enrolled in an engineering program and I'm expected to graduate in 2012. Recently, I thought a lot about what I would like to do after my undergraduate study. One thing for sure is that I do not want to be employed right after my engineering program. The primary reason for that is that I wouldn't be able to get jobs that I really want. What I'd like to be is an industrial designer. First, I would like to hear any stories/advices of people who have pursued in industrial design after an undergraduate study of engineering. I'd like to know if any knowledge learned in engineering was any helpful and beneficial, compared to other students who come straight to industrial design. In addition, most likely I would be going into another undergraduate study for industrial design. The reason why I would like to do so is because I want to take many studio classes. Ideally, I want to go straight into Masters degree in industrial design but then it seems to be a bit of challenging for me to jump into like that without having undergraduate of industrial design. Any true stories/advices on that would be really appreciated. I've heard from my friend who is in Architecture (undergraduate) that the age of students in most design programs vary a lot, from 18 to 30 or even older. I would be 24~25 when I go to industrial design school. I was wondering what age would be the majority of student body. If industrial design is something that I really want to do and that I have been dreaming about, it shouldn't be an issue but I still would like to know if I would have anyone of my age around :) Any advices on which school is good for industrial design would be really appreciated. Right now, I'm thinking of Art Centre College of Design (California), Carnegie Mellon, Pratt Institute, and Rhode Island School of Design. If there are any other really awesome industrial design schools that I'm not aware of, please advise :) They don't have to be in the U.S. Anywhere in the world is perfectly fine with me. Italy would be something that I wouldn't mind trying actually but I had hard time searching for one. Lastly, portfolio is an important part of this whole process, of course. Currently, I do not have many work and I plan to create a lot of them for the next 3 years. I was wondering what kind of approach I should be taking, such as variety of fine arts, 3D modeling, engineering CAD drawings, etc. I also want to somehow distinguish my portfolio that I have a fair bit of knowledge in engineering and that's what it makes me special (Or, is it really?). Myself doesn't know anyone who pursued into industrial design after engieering but I thought it is brilliant because I know what is going on inside of products (in terms of electrical and mechanical) and I would have a wider/somewhat realistic perspective on how products should be designed. Correct me if you like :) Any answers would be really appreciated and I thank you in advance. Kevin
Bentley CAD & Structural products? Hello all I have few questions regarding Bentley CAD & Structural products. I am a structural engineer and working for a local company. Outside of my job I am very much interested to generate 3D models of the structures (residential and industrial buildings) with accurate structural components. Hence 1.What are the suitable Bentley product(s) available for my requirement to model the structures in 3D and produce engineering drawings? 2.Do the Bentley products support structural analysis & design also? If yes, what extra products I need to buy apart from the products required for (1) above? 3.I head recently that there is an Autodesk product called Revit structural. Can you please give some information on this? 4.Which products do you recommend for above purposes – Bentley ones or Autodesk Revit Structural? 5.What are the options available for buying the Bentley or Autodesk software? If I buy the software, does it include licences also or do I need to buy licences separately? If I buy software and or licences now, how long can I use them? Finally I thank you for your time and effort reading my questions. Your answerers will be greatly acknowledged and appreciated. Thanks
What is the best Flat Panel LCD monitor for use with AutoCad? I use AutoCad Civil 3d software on a daily basis for my job. I mostly just do regular 2d drawings but on occasion I have to do a 3d view for a project. I need a good graphics LCD monitor that will work well with my job using CAD. Anyone have any suggestions??
Auto CAD Electrical Kind of thing? I need some advice on something. At my company we do a lot of electrical types of drawings. We actually design solar systems and misc. electrical things, and we are looking for a good computer program for this. I used CAD in school, and it's kind of what I need, except it has waay more features than we need and costs waaay too much. Do you guys know of any good 2d (or 3d??) programs that we could use to make our drawings? It just needs your basic stuff really...electrical symbols, normal construction symbols, line tools for colour and stuff....you know. Our budget is up to $500 or so, we don't want to go over but we can if we have to. Cheers for the help mates ps it's not electronics, so that's not required

Prototypes? I've recently designed something to solve a problem at work. I'm thinking of patenting it, but I want to get a testable prototype first. The object in question is about 4x6 inches, and made of plastic. No one at the plant where I work deals much with plastics, so they can't make it to my specifications. Does anyone know of a company that might be able to manufacture something like this? Also, what CAD program(s) would you recommend for making 3D drawings, etc.
Mechanical Engineering Design Project help? Ok so this is just a concept design that we have to make.. for a mechanical device that launched golf balls in a bucket 2 feet away. Anywayz thats not important. The problem i am having is with the Illustration of the concept. heres what it says one well-documented and illustrated concept(about one page) Excellent, well annotated, three-dimensional drawings are preferred. Lacking the ability to provide these drawings you should at least make the drawings as informative and professional as possible. At least use a straight edge and templates. Computer generated drawings can be very good; however the use of only 2-D assembly drawings is usually not satisfactory. So yes I do lack the ability to provide 3D drawings (assuming that requires using a software like Auto Cad) So i have to use a straight edge.. ok and "Templates"... I dont understand what he means by using templates. Can someone explain this? thanks
Does Solidworks 2008 use multiple processors in a given task? I am planning to upgrade my system to be able to run large multiple assemblies 3D drawings using Solidworks 2008 COSMOSworks FEA Analysis. Right now my CAD software is running great but it cannot analyze very large 3D drawings and I can see that only 1 core is being maxed out in Windows Task Manager when it does, then it prompts Not enough memory and shuts down the application. Now, I am planning to upgrade my mother board to Intel D5400 XS using 2 pairs of 4G Fully Buffered DIMM (FB DIMM) DDR2 memory cards (total of 16G) retaining my 1G video card, Windows XP 32Bit OS and Intel dual core 3.0 chip (compatible). I just want to know if my proposed upgrade will make use both cores at the same time, and would the software utilize both cores simultaneously, if the system is capable whenever possible, for large 3D calculations. Hope you guys can help me out! Thanks!
Help Me With Autodesk Inventor Professional 2008? No one will help me, my teacher is always too busy and i'm behind. Please help me! I basically need to do this with Autodesk Inventor Professional 2008: *Note* You don't need to help me with the questions. I just need the Autodesk Inventor Professional 2008 file with the requirements. Please? Or at least teach me it through email? Thanks. Here: http://morrayeclass.com/IED/Project141PuzzleDesignChallenge.htm Project 1.4.1 – Puzzle Design Challenge Purpose Have you ever looked at a product that has been well-designed? Do you find yourself asking questions, such as, “How did the designer think of that idea?” or “What is involved in the creation of that product?” The more you study and learn about design and how designers create items, you begin to learn certain skills and knowledge that you can only acquire through experience. Design challenges provide opportunities to apply skills and knowledge in unique and creative ways. Taking an idea you have and transferring it from a concept to a sketch, to working drawings, to models, and then to a working prototype is exciting and fun. It also entails several steps. When you are a one-person design and build team, the task of effective communication is rather simple. However, what happens when you must communicate your ideas to others, or the responsibility for building a team’s solution falls on someone else’s shoulders? This increases the level of responsibility significantly and requires the development of a complete set of design documentation in order to communicate effectively. Equipment •Engineer’s notebook •Number 2 Pencil •27 – ¾ in. hardwood cubes •Scotch or masking tape •27 – interlocking plastic centimeter cubes(optional) •Digital camera •Paper towels •Isometric grid paper •Markers and Colored pencils •Wood glue •Sandwich size Ziploc® bag for storage •220 abrasive paper •Computer with 3D CAD solid modeling software Procedure This project will provide you the opportunity to exercise your creativity and develop your sketching and modeling skills, as well as your ability to use the computer as an efficient communication tool. What you have learned throughout Unit 1 – Design Process will be applied to this project. The activities that you have completed throughout the lessons of Unit One will provide you with the information, components, and requirements needed to complete this project. Requirements 1.Study the Puzzle Cube Design Brief located on the following page. 2.Brainstorm and sketch on isometric grid paper possible puzzle part combinations for your cube using Activity 1.4.2 Brainstorming Possible Combinations. 3.Neatly sketch and color code your five parts used in the cube solution and show how they fit in the isometric view of the cube on isometric grid paper. See your teacher for an example. You will need a total of two solutions with ten different parts. 4.Choose your best option from the two solutions. 5.Create the five parts to your cube using 3-D modeling software. Color the parts the same color combination used in the sketching phase of your project. 6.Create multiview drawings for each of the five parts using 3-D modeling software and print out using a drawing sheet. 7.Fabricate your five parts using the 27 cubes and glue. Color using markers or colored pencils and assemble your cube. 8.Assemble your cube using 3-D modeling software and print out the completed cube on a drawing sheet. Puzzle Design Challenge Brief Client:Fine Office Furniture, Inc. Target Consumer:Ages 3+ Designer: _____________________________________ Problem Statement: A local office furniture manufacturing company throws away tens of thousands of scrap ¾” hardwood cubes that result from its furniture construction processes. The material is expensive, and the scrap represents a sizeable loss of profit. Design Statement: Fine Office Furniture, Inc. would like to return value to its waste product by using it as the raw material for desktop novelty items that will be sold on the showroom floor. Design, build, test, document, and present a three-dimensional puzzle system that is made from the scrap hardwood cubes. The puzzle system must provide an appropriate degree of challenge to a person who is three years of age or older. Constraints: 1.The puzzle must be fabricated from 27, ¾” hardwood cubes. 2.The puzzle system must contain exactly five puzzle pieces. 3.Each individual puzzle piece must consist of at least three, but no more than six hardwood cubes that are permanently attached to each other. 4.No two puzzle pieces can be the same. 5.The five puzzle pieces must assemble to form a 2 ¼” cube. 6.Some puzzle parts should interlock. Conclusion 1.Why is it important to model an idea before making a final prototype? 2.Based on your experiences during the completion of the Puzzle Design Challenge, what is meant when someone says, “I us
CAD help ( when given two views draw the thrid)? Ok well this is my first year or half a year using the program and i am currently in school doing drawings. Everythings been going well until we got to drawings in which you are given say the top and bottom view of a 3D object (the views are in 2D) and have to draw a side view. For what ever reason this won't click in my head and i don't get it. I asked the teacher for help but he's a real jerk and didn't help much. So if anyone knows where i can get help for this situation or knows how to do this please share. Thanks in advance.
Could someone please help me with my Design Tech homework? 1)Explain why using Cartesian coordinates enables CAD users systems to produce more accurate drawings than those produced by hand. 2)what are the two main parts of CAD? 3)Why would it be easy to make two circles exactly the same size using CAD? 4) Monitors, printers, and plotters are all examples of what? 5)List two reasons why engineers and designers use CAD 6)Name at least two common uses of 2D CAD 7)What are three kinds of models in 3D models in CAD? 8)What is the difference between surface models and solid models? 9)What is usually the first CAD step for a mechanical designer? 10)List three reasons why mathematical data created during 3D modeling is very important 11)What necessary documents (beside drawings) can an architectural CAD system create Please help!
How do I import an Adobe Illustator file into an AutoCad program? I want to turn one of my pdf drawings I made in Illustrator into 3D. I downloaded a bunch of free CAD softwares but they don't allow you to import PDFs. Is there a program you suggest? I don't actually have the program "AutoCad". I've been downloading free ones and none have been capable of importing these files. Is there a free type of CAD program that you know of that would do this? I don't want to put money into something when I've never seen it work before.
looking for a decent rendering program? HI, i work in a sheet metal shop and i draw the shop drawings for commercial buildings all over wisconsin. I use CAD 2004, which blows but hey, i use what they give me. Anyways im looking for a decent rendering program so i can make the things we do look really sharp for a presentation or something. Not looking for top of the line program somethin simple. I downloaded the free trial for autocad 3d studio max and im totally confused on it and i dont think that program is for me. So if anyone has advice or a suggestion.... please let me know thanks
