3D - 2

3d in autocad 2008?

I have been learning autocad through some really great tutorials. My concern is, is there a way to model 3d in it? So far I've been working totally 2d. Like one of the projects is a house floorplan, moving rooms around and such, but its an above view. Say I wanted to get a side view and give the wals some hieght? Possible? For more than 2d vieiwing and modeling?

  1. AutoCAD offers a full 3D WCS and commands will accept 3d endpoint coordinates in XYZ. Since version 13 AutoCAD has also been ACIS enabled, so you can build 3D solids using boolean construction. Use the good searchable help for expressions like "3D" "face" "solid".
  2. If you can get your hands on Autocad Architecture 2009 or Autocad Architectural Desktop 2008 and below, making walls, windows, doors, stairs, and such in 3d is much easier. But with vanilla Autocad 2008, you'll have to do some extruding, subtracting, union, and moving your UCS around to get the results that you want. You can try this, type in the command line: Rectangle "draw a long skinny rectangle" Extrude "select the rectangle you just made" Press enter "it will ask for a height, type in a number" Then to see your extruded object: Vpoint 1,-1,1 And you should be able to see your wall.
