What laptop specs do I need?
I have a Compaq EvoN1000v at the moment (old school!) and I really need to update it. I can spend around €1000 on it but I'd only be comfortable spending a lot if I know its not gonna give me any problems. I am an Industrial Design student so I need a laptop that can handle Photoshop and 3D modelling programmes like CAD, 3d Studio Max and Solidworks without crashing, as well as regular MS Office type tasks. Any suggestions of what would be a good model for me to go with? I'm not completely computer illiterate but I want to make sure I end up with something I can use! Cheers! I know they're meant to be freakin fantastic but i don't want a Mac!

- Buy a mac powerbook rather than a pc laptop. their better designed in cpu architecture and ram for DTP and stuff like that.
- Hey claire, well first off the new intel centrino core duo 2 processors are the muts nuts in laptops at the mo, very good. so one of those will help. i'd look for at leat 1.7ghz processor speed. Also plenty of ram is essential. at least 1GB or 1024MB (the same) i would recommend if using graphics applications. many new laptops come with that anyway. Hard disk size wont really impact on the performance but i personally would not go for less than 80GB now. Hope thats helpfull!
