how to build a 3d Model from scanned 3D image ?

I am trying to make a 3d model made up of transparent plastic sheets. I know some place that will scan the model for me. I don’t know how to convert it to actual model. I am putting one of the ideas how it can be done below. Can you suggest any more ideas or more details about the concept below. I want to make a slice model of old buildings E.G. Eiffel tower. I can find the 3d models on web. I am looking to find software that will slice a model for me.

  1. look for a company which has 3D printers. They are only going to be able to print it out if your 3D computer model fulfils a variety of quality standards (no missing triangles/ holes, all in the right orientation, all intersections are the origin of 3 lines, no more no less...). In addition a 3D printer only works to a certain size. You can also ask around for 3D milling machines, they usually can deal with larger things, though often not with undercuts. I assume you want to enlarge your original model, otherwise I don't see a point in scanning a model in and then wanting to output it. You have to tell the company who does the 3D scan that you need it for 3D printing/rapid prototyping. Don't know, but it may influence the quality of the file they give you. Though it may also influence the price a lot. It's going to be expensive, depending on size the whole project could be from a couple of hundred to a couple of thousand $. the other option is slicing your 3D model, I think all 3D modeling programs will do that, then printing out the sections on a normal 2D printer and using them to cut out pieces of styrofoam or wood or whatever to build your models with. generally look into rapid prototyping methods, there are heaps of info on the web.
  2. Research Guides for Students. "Student Researcher is easy to use, fast, and offered me everything I needed, just type the "Author's" name and or the "Title" into the search engine. You can type in a “Key” word or two, that will help also. http://www.geocities.com/athens/troy/886... http://www.studentresearcher.com/search/... Noli Me Tangere
