- I can't find it it's probably the same program everyone else uses to produce objects they can't film
- i would love to no that answer as well.
- Industrial Light and Magic (the special effects company created by LucasArts) had originally used Softimage 3D for the modeling and Mental Ray to render scenes. Coordinating the use of two different programs was not very productive. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Softimage In my opinion the CGI animation produced was not very good quality for the Special Edition release of the original trilogy. The character's and vehicles created looked "off" and were obvious CGI elements rather than truely lifelike and seemless. ILM then switched to Maya 3D which encorperated the Mental Ray rendering program directly within the modeling program. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_(software) This produced much better CGI creations in my opinion. The Prequel trilogy had superior visual effects and CGI elements were more realistic and nearly seemless with the characters and real elements (matte paintings, miniature models, etc) in the scenes. The main program I'm actually familiar with is Lightwave 7, been trying to save up and get the new Lightwave 9, but also need to get a new computer with the right specs. Here's the link if you'd like to check it out too. http://www.newtek.com/lightwave/
- I was told that they used Avid machines, but that is unfortunately all I know.
