Problem getting image to pop out of screen in IMAX 3D?

I recently watched an IMAX 3D movie and although there was a plane of depth, there was nothing "jumping out of the screen" if you know what I mean. I know there was supposed to be that effect because the people I saw it with said that there definately was that effect. Next time I see a 3D movie I want to get the full effect. Any solutions?

1. I'm guessing you just saw Beowulf. I saw Superman Returns in IMAX 3D too and I can agree that it wasn't all as "poppy" as it could have been. I don't know about the upcoming movies, but if you want a better experience, I heard they're playing Beowulf in 3D at theaters with DLP (digital projection) so that might be better. The next movie coming to IMAX is "I Am Legend" but NOT in 3D. The only other film playing in imax 3d for soon in the Polar Express so you won't have to worry about it anyway.
