new Batman movie has scenes in IMAX but not 3d what does that mean?
Does the IMAX experience mean it'll look sorta like a 3d book (where a square will look like a cube)???Someone explain b/c they said it was a difference than just putting the movie in the IMAX room as they sometimes do (bigger screen more sound details) no that's not what I said. I just saw an interview and the people of Batman said that they were filming scenes specifically for IMAX so I was wondering what's the difference? (I know some movies just show the movie on IMAX screen, but Batman is filming some scenes with a different kind of camera. It's not 3-d, but something will be diff. than a regular theater. NO IT'S NOT IN 3D)

- No, IMAX does not mean that a film is 3D, IMAX pertains to the screen size, the seating arrangement of the theater, and the number of speakers as well as speaker placement, and the construction of the theater itself. All of those work together to give every guest "the best seat in the house." IMAX 3D will give you that effect as well as 3D. Personally, i see every movie that comes out in IMAX because it make such a difference in the entire experience, and you should too. As for Batman: The Dark Knight, it will be shown in regular digital theaters and in IMAX. The production company may be filming some scenes for Batman that they will only put into the IMAX print, to boost sales, other than that i don't know.
- IMAX refers to the film format. IMAX movies are done on 70mm film that runs sideways, so the film image is as tall as a normal 70mm frame is wide. This produces a very high resolution image, suitable for large-scale projection. Many IMAX theaters project the film on a portion of a large dome, to give you the feeling of being surrounded by the image. This is called IMAX Dome, or OMNIMAX. IMAX films can be shot in 3D, as can films in other formats.
- IMAX and 3D are two different things. In IMAX theaters it feels like you're actually in the movie because the screen surrounds your vision completely. Also the picture and sound are much better than a normal theater. If you see a movie in 3D, it's almost like a normal movie theater experience, except you wear 3d glasses, and the movie looks like it's in 3D. (I've never actually seen one, though.) However, it's a new system they recently came out with. It's not like the old 3D movies. This is a new type of technology. And it's supposed to be good. In fact, Disney just announced that from now on, all their movies will be available in 3D. When you go watch a movie in 3D, if you don't already have a pair from earlier, you have to buy the glasses (it's only like 2 or 3 dollars.) IMAX and 3D both require special screens, so if you're going to the theater, make sure the theater is equipped with 3D rooms or IMAX rooms. Like, for example, if you see the movie WALL-E in 3D, you have to find a theater that has a 3D room, and make sure you buy a ticket for the 3D version, because usually they play one room in 3D and one without.
- I'll condense what everyone else said. Basically, The Dark Knight is going to be on the giant IMAX screens, but unlike last year's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, no scenes are showing in 3D. Only some movies have the capability to be in IMAX and 3D. Of course, James Cameron (director of Titanic) is looking to change that when his new film Avatar comes out in '09. It is entirely in 3D, and he is trying to prove that you don't need gimmicks (ie random things flying at the screen ala Spy Kids 3) to make a 3D movie good.
