3d animation movies?

what are some good programs to start out to learn how to animate in 3d? anyone know good schools near st. louis for it?

  2. Blender's free 3d software. http://www.blender.org/ But pretty much everyone in the industry uses Maya. It's become a standard. 3D animation programs have a pretty steep learning curve though. When you're looking around for school's, look for animation schools that put an emphasis on teaching you the basics and the principles of animation as a priority, and software secondly. There's tons of garbage technical schools out there who'll teach you software but no animation skills. Once the version of the software you learned goes obsolete and out of date, you won't have any basic animation training to fall back on. If you learn how to animate first, you can apply that to any medium of software you choose to work in. Software is just a tool, like pen and paper.
