  1. Im attending and Art Institute for Media Arts and Animation. Most art schools will be expensive regardless. Cuz most of them are considered private schools. Your looking at around 90K. Um it really doesn't depend on the school but your self motivation to keep at it. A certificate from them won't do shiet for you, you have to show them your the best. So everyone in the school you go to will be your competition. Dedicate your time and effort 100% to get through. You'll be using programs like Maya, 3D's max, Zbrush, etc. They take forever to learn but it all depends on you. Hope it helps but look at the art schools in New York. Call and talk to the students n get their opinion. hope it helps
  2. Okay, just to put it straight. Animation is hard. Not just hard in as in just grit your teeth or concentrate and everything will be okay, but learning to animate is full of sweat and tears. You will get frustrated. Believe me. Before you can animate, you can't just draw. Especially with 3D figures. A good program (if you have a pc and not a mac) is Rhino 3D. That will get you started on coming up with 3D models. It's not super sophisticated, but Just try doing the simple things that they have tutorials for, like a hammer, or even a screw. Move on to something more difficult, like a hair dryer, or a coffeepot. Keep on moving up until you come up with something really difficult and full of lots of wierd curves, like a car. Then you can Download a trial version of ZBrush. ZBrush is a computer sculpting program that is also PC based. That will help you get human figures. I don't know much about it, except for what my animation instructor told me. The next step is Maya, which is the program most major animators use. The student version, unlike the other two programs, will cost you money. About $800. The full version is more like $12K. That's why major companies have it, and not average Joe Blow. Everyone says Maya is really easy, and it is... after all of the crying and wanting to chuck your monitor out a window, and having no idea what in the world is going on with the stupid program. After that, it's the best thing in the world. You can import 3D items from ZBrush and Rhino into it, and add "joints" to it, like a puppet. So anyways, just letting you know that just because you can draw, it doesn't mean you can animate. I'm not trying to crush you or anything, because it's still totally doable. It just takes a lot of patience and effort to figure out how to do it, and to let you know, most animating isn't ever programmed. All the programmers do is give the animation some AI. Animation is a very separate job. I'm not sure about New York, but I know the Art Institutes are pretty good at landing jobs for their students, and there is always Digipen up in Seattle where they pretty much guarantee a job for Nintendo. Also, Disney offers some internships, so I'm fairly certain if you just want to start your way at the bottom, and work your way up, they will teach you everything you need to know.
