what is a cheap software program for making an amateur 3D animation short or movie?
I don't want a free one because you get what you pay for. Something that has a good tutorial because i'm new at this.

- Musix looks pretty interesing and it's free, open source :)
- I understand your feeling about free software and it used to be true that you couldn't get a truly professional 3D package without paying a substantial sum. However, things have changed and the "open source" community has created BLENDER, which is an absolutely free package that compares very favorably with the "pro" applications costing thousands of dollars. You can see a comparison of the different high-end packages here: http://wiki.cgsociety.org/index.php/Comparison_of_3d_tools You can download tutorials that will teach you how to use the software and almost all of the skills translate to other high-end 3D applications as well. You WILL have to work very hard because ALL pro-level 3D software has a pretty steep learning curve. However, I'm completely self taught myself and make my living in 3D animation. It took a lot of evenings but if you are patient and keep at it you can teach yourself EVERYTHING you need to know. Finally, I'd recommend that you pick up (or subscribe to) the magazine 3D World. Each month they have a CD with the magazine that usually has promotional or free software along with tutorials on how to use it.
