3D - 2

Is it possible to overlay a 3d Animation over a .AVI video?

Me and some friends made a zombie movie, theres a part where a zombies arm is ripped off, we are trying to save on cash, so we figured we could create a "Blobmesh" blood squirting animation on 3D Studio Max and somehow over lay it over the actual video file, is there any way to do this?

  1. Yes, you need matchmoving software. http://www.thepixelfarm.co.uk/contentfull.aspx?content=pfhoe.htm Pfhoe is inexpensive (49 pounds) and the results are generally excellent. It works like this: 1) import video into match moving software 2) create the camera data 3) export camera data and import into 3d app 4) render (with alpha channel) 5) use a video editor to combine both. (After Effects, Jahshaka) It depends on the software whether you need the 5th step: it is possible to use the avi as a background in a 3d app (parented to the camera). It's way more flexible to use a compositing tool, though. See video tutorial 50 @ http://www.cmivfx.com/tutorials.asp CHeers!
