why do mechanical engineers use the CAD software?

not specifically the CAD software but any computer assisted drawing program.

  1. Because drafting by hand is a lost skill/art. Also, it is much more cost effective when changes need to be made to change an electronic file than manually change a hand-drawn drawing. A CAD file is easily transportable around the world, and can be output on a plotter thousands of miles away in seconds, as opposed to a manually drawn drawing, which only exists physically in one location. Also, CAD programs can be linked into product testing/cost estimating/manufacturing programs so that more of the design and development process is integrated together.
  2. Hand drawing is very difficult to accomplish when making multiple views of an object. It is also very difficult to make sure that object will work together under certain tolerances. With CAD/CAE software an engineer can use his created models to test the designs integrity without actually building a prototype therefore saving the company money. CAD/CAE programs also allow the programming of a milling/prototyping machine so that fast prototypes can be built.
  3. drawing can easily be done on cad without much effort. and if some correction has to be made then without much effort it can be changed. if u are imaging some thing u can easily draw with ur mouse clicks. no need of pencile, rubber or scale or mini drafter or sheets. for bussiness the design can be send through email.
  4. CAD means Computer Aided design. Softwares such as Auto CAD lets Engineers and Architects to build a structures such as a Bridge, Buildings, Monuments , cars etc. and test its effectiveness, design, possibilities and how the structure can be Improved , for example making a building earthquake proof etc. In CAD , every last bit of design and details can be applied, its like a 3 dimensional blueprint. With this a preview of the finished product can be displayed with a click. Its takes less time, editing and managing is easy and takes no paper work.
