  1. do what your midwife says, they know alot about stuff like that!congratultions on your bundle of joy!
  2. If this was harmful to the baby they wouldn't "DARE" to do these ultrasounds on pregnant women. I just heard a lot of U/S are not good for the baby. That was it. Nothing harmful!
  3. No, its fine. If it was harmful, there wouldnt be facilities you could go to and get them. I got them and it was so amazing. I was very happy with it. Now I wouldnt go getting one every day lol but its fine.
  4. 3d ultrasounds use the same sound waves as a regular ultrasound, just a different (better, more advnced) machine to interpret the results. And while no doctor will tell you ultrasounds are 100% safe, no one has ever lost their baby or had a deformed baby because of ultrasound in the 30+ years they have been used. High risk pregnancies can have ultrasounds as often as every month to every week, and some women who work in ultrasound offices will give themselves ultrasounds nearly every day just to peek at their baby. Don't listen to people trying to scare you about the ultrasound unless it is YOUR doctor...it hasn't ever caused a problem before and isn't likely to start now.
  5. No more harmful than a regular ultrasound, and many hospitals are starting to move to them as their "regular" ultrasound. I personally chose not to have a 3d/4d. I already know it's a girl and what her name is, I wanted what she looks like to be surprise. Good luck!
  6. 3 and 4D ultrasound are the exact same pulsed wave ultrasonography as is used on your everyday scanning . The difference is in the post processing of the information once its received by the machine . The computer assembles the strongest return waves in real time, which are the ones returned quickest ( the surface) ....then produces a rendering of the superficial structures of your baby . This is how the image is produced . It's pretty cool. The type of ultrasound used in imaging is called pulsed wave ultrasound . This, in short , means that the sound is sent out from the transducer and into your body in short monitered , metered bursts . All of those "ultrasound will heat the amniotic fluid , or burst the ear drum" stories you hear are greatly exagerated worst case scenarios involving Continuous wave , not Pulsed wave ultrasound . Continuous wave ultrasound is a constant stram of ultrasonic waves , and is most commonly used by OBGYN's in the hand held doppler units. does this mena they are dagerous ? No...it means they cant keep that doppler on your tummy fro an hour at a time is all. A few minutes , even every day is just fine. It takes TIME to heat the amniotic fluid. a FYI... it's NEVER been tested on humans because the physics of sound already confirm it will happen . That principle is what thearputic ultrasound was deveopled on . That having been said the FDA has done innumerable studies about the bioeffects of continuous wave ultrasonography on fetal development . ...and in EVERY case , even in those of repeated exposure and exam, not a SINGLE adverse bioeffect has EVER been documented. Ever. Ever ever. Ever ever ever. So...go ahead and have your ultrasound . It's a great bonding experience , and so much fun. Good Luck ! ~Ej
