My pregnanacy was considered high risk because of my age, and my daughter had 1-2 ultrasounds a month from 12 weeks to 7 months gestation (she was born 7 weeks premature, but not due to the ultrasounds) and she is fine... 100%, and smart as a whip, with no complications or health problems. ******************************************* Response to the response to the response (lol) She never mentioned getting this done in a mall, or by anyone unqualified. The facility that I listed is a licensed facility with licensed technicians. I agree that I would never let some Tom, Dick or Harry prode me or my baby with an ultrasound wand because of the sound waves. I didn't even think tom Cruise should have ultrasounded Katie Holmes for that very reason... he knows nothing about sound frequencies.
2. Please don't do that. Ultra sounds should not be done for entertainment or photos. There are studies that say the baby hears the sound waves as if a train was running through the uterus. Ultra sounds are "safe" but like everything else they have a purpose which is medical and shouldn't be abused. They used to think that X-rays were safe also. In response to response - I still stand on the fact that medical procedures should not be done for entertainment. Please read some literature regarding the sounds that the baby hears. They are considered safe and are a helpful tool, but no competant doctor would be working in a mall setting doing these ultrasounds. All ultrasounds need to be ordered by a doctor and these mall rats are the doctors that aren't competant enough to be working in a hospital. Got their medical degree in Costa Rica or somewhere else because they couldn't get into medical school in the states. Obviously do what you want but the health risks on these non necessary ultra sounds won't be known for many, many years.
3. I LOVED these ultra sounds. Typically, any hospital will do them. That is where I had mine done. They are amazing.
4. www.envisionimaginginc.com - - - this company is in Columbus. I live in Cincinnati as well, and it's about an hour and a half from me. I know they will take appointments for people who just want the ultrasound, with no doctor referral. It's about $160.00 if I remember correctly. There's also a place called the Fetal Care Center of Cincinnati. Says they do 3d / 4d ultrasounds also. Their phone # is 1-888-338-2559. They are located at 3333 Burnet Avenue, right by Children's hospital. This one I'm not sure whether you would need a health reason or not to visit this place. Best of luck and congratulations!
5. Im not sure why everyone is suggesting you run up to Columbus to get it done. There is a place here in Cincinnati called "Becoming Mom" that is supposed to be one of the better places in the country to get this done. Its also a spa type environment, where they do special pregnancy massages and stuff, in addition to the ultrasounds. Its pretty popular, and they tend to put out a coupon on occasion in those local coupon magazines and mailers.
