  1. Go to the website of the manufacturer of your computer (assuming the sound device came with the PC). Look up your make and model and the correct driver will be available there. If they have more than one, and you can not guess which you need, download them all. Try to install, and if it is not the right one, you will get a "Device not found error" and it will not install. They you try the next. (Rare to have more then 3 or 4 to try).
  2. Its the Realtek 97' sound driver. Semi-easily found by searching. It's free...so don't get inticed by the sites needing anything else.
  3. The updated driver version was 6.14.01.4150 at http://www.viaarena.com/defaul...atID=1010&SubCatID=100 VIA Vinyl Audio Driver for VT1617 Try opening the Recording Properties for your audio device and sliding all recording input levels to the lowest setting (0). Also try selecting Stereo or Mono Mix as the Recording device instead of Line-In or Microphone Also see the forum below: http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.aspx?catid=17&threadid=70769&enterthread=y For detailed instructions see http://downloads.viaarena.com/drivers/audio/ComboAudio_A1u390aReadMe.txt8) Windows 2000/XP/2003 Driver ========================= == Driver Installation == ========================= a) Automatic Installation Decompress the zip folder and type D:> SETUP.EXE (where D equals the location of the setup file) in the run command prompt or double click the setup.exe file. Select "Install". After the system reboots, the driver will be installed completely. b) Manual Installation Under Device Manager, "PCI Audio Multimedia Device" will be displayed if the "VIA AC97 PCI (Enhanced) Audio Device" is detected by the PCI enumerator. Set the source destination directory to the "\WIN2000", where the "VIA AC97 PCI (Enhanced) Audio Device" installation file for the Win2000, VINYL97.INF, is located. After the selection, the "VIA AC97 PCI (Enhanced) Audio Device" will be installed successfully.
  4. Hello Paddy. Please don't use the Realtek drivers. It's not a Realtek chipset...and don't use the VT Vinyl Drivers for 1617 (right company, wrong controller - it has to be for Southbridge according to your HardID). They did paste a comprehensive install from the readme file which you can use with VIA 82xx controller. Upon reading your information (thank you for the details - that helps) the following accurate information can be determined (the important stuff): VEN_1106 is the vendor number of VIA Technologies Inc. DEV_3059 is the device number of AC97 Enhanced Audio Controller (chip VT8233/33A/8235/8237/8251) Therefore you require the AC97 Enhanced Audio Controller for that array of sound device chipsets from VIA Arena in the link source I've attached. Download the package, expand it, then have your Windows Add New Hardware... look in the folder where you unzipped the files (or follow the instructions pasted by the last answer) Hope this helps...
