What does "3D Sound" mean?

I have on my speakers "Normal" sound and "3D Sound." I've been trying to listening in each mode, but I can't find a significant difference between the two. What is the difference between the two?

1. what your listening to has to be 3d too. but say you have a movie with 3d sound and there is an explosion on the left side of the screen youll hear it on the left speakers. or if someone runs up behind the main charictor and shouts youll hear the footsteps from the back speakers and the same with the shouts.......basicly the sound comes from the same direction as how it would in the movie. also in some music they have certin sounds come from the left and some from the right. instead of all the sounds on all speakers. but it depends on what your listening to and if its in the 3d format
