from vista to Xp sound card problems!?

Hey there ive upgraded from vista to xp pro and i cant seem to get working sound drivers. i have a Altec Lansing speakers 3D Sound Blaster Pro compatible sound 16 bit integrated set up. I got one driver that worked, but regardless of changing the sound it stayed at the same loud volume. Also it wouldnt put a icon on the start bar near clock to shortcut to. Any ideas???? Cheers!

1. If the computer hardware is older, it's possible there is no device driver for your sound card on Vista. You may have to update your sound card if this is a desktop, or grab en external sound card if it's a laptop. I had this problem on a older gateway laptop going from windows 98 to windows xp, there is no sound driver for the embedded sound card on the laptop, so therefore no sound.
