  1. You're not going to find too many high-performance laptops that can perform within the range of this Dell Laptop. If you're concerned about performance, I'd skip the 120 GB 5400 RPM Hard drive and skimp down to a 7200 RPM hard drive. You won't have as much storage, however, your seek times will be alot faster with that kind of hard drive. As for suggestions.. you can save some dough by going with 2 gigs of memory.. 4 is excessive even for that computer. FSB (Front Side Bus) - the data bus between the CPU and memory on the motherboard. The faster the better. Short of sizing up an Alienware Laptop thats equipped with a desktop processor (will eat batteries like nobody's business), I don't think you'll find anything too much cheaper. You may want to check out Toshiba's Qosmio line up of lap tops. They have similar offerings that perform close to the Dell system you're considering.
  2. I think no one can below that price... The lower version of DELL XPS M1710 (Intel Core Duo T2500, 1 GB DDR2, GeForce 7900GS 256 MB)which is cost US$ 2400 (maybe) is more powerfull than ACER TravelMate 8204WLMi (Intel Core Duo T2500, 1 GB DDR2-533, ATi Mob. Radeon X1600 256 MB HyperMemory 512 MB) US$ 2399
