3D - 2

Are there still digital ink and paint jobs in animation left in the US?

I was wondering if there was anyone out there who knew if there were any animation studios IN THE US - that still do their own digital ink and paint? I have a Bachelor of Computer Animation from SCAD and specialized in DIP. I have found that all of the jobs of the DIP have been outsourced overseas. Is there still hope of me getting into a digital ink and paint position in the US? I can't believe I went to school for so long and there just aren't any jobs in this field anymore. I know 2D is quickly falling by the wayside and the only 2D really left is television animation and a few movies - The Simpsons. Though I think that might have been 3D colored to resemble 2D. I just want to work in my field, doing what I love, and what I'm good at. I have worked on a couple of movies and tv series as well. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

  1. I'm close to your field and noticed the same thing. I know the group that did Sky Captain was completely domestic at the time.
