- When we see things in real life, with two eyes, we see them in 3D. A 2D picture is flat; 3D glasses aim to mimic the 3D effect of looking at things in life. To demonstrate to yourself how we see in 3D, hold your hand up and close one eye. Look at your hand, then open your eye and close the other one. Do this several times and notice how the scene shifts. 3D glasses alone cannot make a normal picture look 3D. They work together with a specially prepared image, which is a combination of two images showing slightly different angles. Each lens of the glasses shows only one image (this is the simplest 3D effect, with a red and a green lens) and the brain combines them to make us see the picture in 3D. It's the same with movies. The images and the glasses are designed to work together.
