Has anyone done a 4D ultrasound and not been happy with the results?

I was thinking about having one done, but I've heard that you can end up with a disappointing image. All on whether the baby is looking in the right direction and all. Any opinions?

1. It works best if you say cheese right before the ultrasound is turned on.
2. My wife and I paid to have one done when she was pregnant with our son. Our first session was unsuccessful. We couldn't tell his gender, and he was covering his face. We were invited to come back for a 2nd 30 minute session for free, and the pictures turned out pretty good (you can see a GIF on my myspace at myspace.com/anthonyspears). Although most of the one's I've seen from other people have been really shoddy -- they look like monsters, as was the case with most of the images we took home during the 2nd session.
3. We had one done to early and the results were not that great. But we went back and had it done later on in the pregnancy. If I were you, I would call the office and ask what is the best time during the pregnancy to get one. They will tell you when to come in for the best results. We got great results in the last trimester. Just don't get it done to early and it will be great.
4. What you have heard is true, you may not get good pictures, however i got great ones, you could also call the place and see how many ppl have not been satisfied maybe? Its well worth the gamble though in my opinion, the pictures are really great if you get good ones, and you get a dvd too. Go after you are at least 25 weeks to get the best pictures, good luck
5. Yeah, I was a little disappointed with mine. He wouldn't look at the camera so all we got was a profile pic. I still love it, but it just didn't seem like the nurse really cared about getting a good shot of him. I recommend getting one, though. They're pretty cool if you can get one where the baby is looking at the "camera".
6. I have not had one done, yet. However, they are very clear about when you can get the best results (between 27 and 33 weeks, I believe)-the baby has fat on it by that time and looks "human" rather than skeletal. The farther along you are, the more difficult it is to get "good" pictures because the baby is so crowded. They are also very clear on the fact that the images represented on their sites are not necessarily what you will see. Depending on the position of the baby, the amount of tissue between the probe and the baby, and other factors, the pictures may or may not be satisfactory. From what I have read, most try to be very accomodating as far as getting pictures if the baby is uncooperative-they will have you walk, drink orange juice, etc to try and get the baby to be more active or change position. However, there is that chance that you will not be satisfied. You should discuss what happens in that situation BEFORE you pay. Some may allow you to come back for another session at a reduced rate, or perhaps even free. I hope you have a wonderful session, though!
7. I have not had one, but I have seen pictures of them from others who have. I personally do not like them. Yea, the baby looks more real, but the baby also looks kind of weird, their facial features can have a strange shape to them. I just prefer the normal black & white ultrasounds better. No matter which you get you will not really know exactly how your baby will look until he/she arrives because neither will give you a clear exact look, as in person or like a camera does after the child is born.
8. I had one done for FREE - check around, some hospitals offer them free on certain days at certain times. (Mine was in River Falls, WI) It was really much more entertaining than a regular ultrasound. And they were easily able to tell the gender.
9. i had a 3d and a 4d ultrasound and i can tell you it was awsome to even get to see them both. you can have disapponting results with any ultrasound you get. i enjoyed seeing him in every ultrasound we got.. just be happy to know your baby is safe and healthy. our baby had his hands in his face the whole time with the 4d. and he still does now at 9 weeks old. also on the 3d he had his foot in his face we was just happy to see him,. and we got a side profile of our baby in the 3d and he look just like dad had his eyes,nose,mouth and cheeks just like dad,, so we knew he was going to look like dad from that moment on and as soon as he was out he look like dad everything the same just like it showed in the ultrasound.. all i can say is it's different for everyone..
10. I just went back for my 2nd session today. We went at 26 weeks and couldnt really see anything so we went back at 29 weeks and we could see him more clearly...but not like i thought it was going to be. On the tv ads and internet it makes you think youre going to see a perfect clear pic of your baby...not true at all. It was a really cool experience, but I dont think Id pay $200 again to do it.
11. I had just had my first baby a couple of months ago and researched the 3D/4D ultrasounds for us during my pregnancy. I have to say, they don't come very highly recommended by medical staff from what I've read. Because ultrasounds are done with very high frequency sound waves there is some impact on the baby. Regular ultrasounds have not been shown to threaten a fetus, but because 3D and 4D ultrasounds use higher frequency soundwaves to get an even better quality image, the jury is not out yet as to whether this can cause damage to the baby's hearing or other problems. Because they are still a relatively new procedure, not all the research has been done. The recommendation is that if the OB suggests you get one for medical purposes, then go ahead. But if you don't need one, then it's best to avoid what we don't know enough about. Regular ultrasounds can still do the trick. Plus with the cost in some countries/states, and the chance that they won't turn out, well, we opted to not have it done. But it's your decision. Good luck. 12. Hi. We paid a lot of money for them to tell us we were having a boy. (They said they could see everything) 13 weeks later we were blessed with a lovely little girl. The photos and DVD were great though. Cx
13. My doctor said that if we are going to do the 4D ultrasound, then it is best to do it after 32 weeks because you will get a better image. Anything earlier, and you might not be able to see what you want.
