If my baby to be born has inversion in chromosome 8 (p21:Q22) not inheritated from parents, what does it mean?

I am pregnant in week 23, The result of amneocentis showed an inversion in Chromosome 8 ( p21 ; Q22 ). We have been asked to do a Karyotype analysis of PND to see if he inherited this inversion from one of us. The 4D picture has proven that he is growing very normally and no physical problems. Our concern is if he did not inheritated the inversion, what disabilities he will have and when he is born and how can we know the disability if it is not physical?

  1. best to ask to specialist who performed or will perform the test about your concerns... they will tell you everything you need to know :)
  2. imagine that the chromosome is a line _______p__. and let's say that the letter p is just a normal part of the chromo. the inversion occurs during the phase where the cells are divided and multiplied. in this case the p part of the chromosome changes direction. so, instead of fasing right it faces left and so on. so u could have: _______ q__. the only case that this could be dangerous for the child is, if during the inversion a gene has been destroyed because of the piece of the chromo that changed direction. i think that it doesn't affect the child itself somehow, but its kids later 'cause it will be difficult to combine his chromosome with his wife's. i think u should ask more info from your doctor. if he says there will be no problems then he's right. just make sure you get all the info you need.
