How do i get 4D ultrasound scan?
I think you only get the 'traditional' scan on the nhs, i am having one of these on June 6th to determine my dates as we are unsure how many weeks I am, probably around 8 - 10 weeks. How do I go about getting one of the newer 4D ultrasound scans? Many thanks, Alison ( & Co!)

- You'd have to book it through a private company. I went to one of the clinics on the link below, don't know if any would be convenient for you or not though! I had actually just booked for a 2d scan, but there was something wrong with their 3/4d scan printer, so the doctor asked if it was OK to check how it was working, and I managed to get a free 4d scan. I'd highly recommend one, it was AMAZING seeing his face and watching his expressions!
- Many perinatal testing centers do not do them. Therefore, you need to go to a special place. They are not medical places. Make sure if you choose to go to one the are certified in operating ultrasound machines.
- Insurance companies don't often cover these tests, so if you want to have one done you need to do it privately. Find a clinic that specializes in them and tell them you're going in as a private patient (which probably is the majority of the people they see anyways) and ask how much it would cost. If you can afford it (because I've heard they're a little expensive, don't get me wrong!) then you can schedule the appointment on your own. I would personally suggest that you do it when you're at least 20 weeks pregnant so that you can clearly make out the babies features and sex (since it may be the only one you get during the pregnancy, it would be best to get the most out of it!) Good luck, and congratulations!
- usally you have to pay for it so all you have to do is tell the doctor and they will schedule it i know i paid 125.00 dollars for mine and i would wait till about after 25 weeks as it is more clear and you can see the baby fully at this stage you are more likely going to see not much so i would wait
- All you have to do is search for 4D ultrasound in your area on Google. Then call and make the appointment. it is not covered by insurance and you will have to pay for it, but when we did it, we paid only like $175 and we got great pictures to take home of the 3D scan (8 total) and a DVD of the live action (which is what the 4D is) and we get a discount when we go back. You may want to wait until your further along (20 wks plus) and you'll drink a lot of water for 1-2weeks before hand. It's not hard to schedule and get done at all. Hope that helps!
- Call local ultrasound or imaging centers and they will more than happily make an appointment. If you want your insurance to cover it, you have to ask your doctor for a script for it. But they suggest waiting til your 7 months to get a more detailed and better picture and look.
- mine does them even without u asking them.. i guess just findout with ur office if they do them and if so do they charge extra
