Whats the best way to prepare for a 3D / 4D Ultrasound?
They told me lots of water, but that was it. What about a soda or something to make the baby hyper?

- i was told 8 cups of water before...and having some sweets like candy.
- you don't even need water. Technology is great- just show up and bring a CD or video tape!
- I went for mine at 21 weeks and had a can of soda and a packet of crisps just before i went in to the clinic, my scan was perfect he was blowing bubbles and moving about!!
- I was just reading about this yesterday on a forum. It seems like lots and lots of water for the days leading up to it, because if not, the fluid is dark and makes fuzzier pictures. They did say a glass of juice or something sugary before you go is also a good idea, like you said, to wake the baby up.
- I thought i wanted my baby really active for our 3d/4d us, however when baby moves in there you can't see a thing on the screen just blurryness & the pictures turn out faded.. Trust me, it's better if he's just asleep or not moving so much.. It was still amazing to look at him for the 1st time. Just drink the water & hope that the baby cooperates Enjoy & God Bless!!!
- You don't really need a full bladder for a 3D ultrasound. Make sure you have something to eat, to get the baby going. :) I had a 3D u/s done to confirm my daughter's cleft lip/palate. Didn't need anything to drink.
- i made the mistake or drinking soda. my baby wouldn't stop moving, so alot of the shots he had were blur because of the computer wouldnt catch her sudden movements. so if the baby isnt moving much, bring a soda just in case and drink a little to get her going. =] just drink some water n play wit her to make sure shes up (or he.)
- I think most of it is great technology and a good Tech...plus a little luck I did it all. Had water before, plus a cup of coffee....a bunch of sugar and when it came time....he slept the whole time, but the technology gave me some great shots and i found out...w/o a doubt that it was a boy!
- Nothing ! You don't need to do anything extra in preparation for the 3D/4D ultrasound. The requirement for a good 3D/4D pic is for there to be good amount of amniotic fluid between your baby's face and the placenta or wherever else he/she is facing. Also, the baby's position in the womb matters eg: If the umbilical cord or your baby's hand/legs are in the way, you wont get a good picture. So, just keep your fingers crossed that your baby isn't sleepy on the day of the 3D/4D and co-operates with the nurse taking the pics :). So doesnt matter if you havent had extra fluid that day ... it wont make a difference since your water intake will not increase/decrease the amniotic fluid and neither will it guarantee that sufficient amniotic fluid is present in front of the baby's face at the time of taking the pics.
