can we create 3d sound using just 2 speakers?

1. Common stereo imaging is sort of 3 dimensional and can fake a center speaker. Processing like SRS can sort of fake surround sound but in my opinion is nothing like actual surround sound. The sound bars that are on the market (ie: Yamaha) do a fairly good job of it, but still are not quite like having two speakers behind you.
