How accurate is 3D ultrasound in determining gender vs a regular ultrasound?
I had my routine US at 19 weeks. It was a traditional US. the tech was fairly certain the baby is a girl, but told me that if I needed another US for medical reasons to have them double check. For a variety of personal reasons, it is important to me to know for sure. (before flaming me, please note that my primary concern is for a healthy baby). I have booked a 3D US at a private clinic. I will be 21 weeks and 5 days when it takes place. I am just wondering if 3D ultrasounds are more accurate when it comes to detecting gender.

- We had 2 2D ultrasounds and 1 3D/4D ultrasound. We knew the sex at 100% by the tech at the 1st two ultrasounds. I would think they would be the same. Realize that little girls are swollen down there when inside the womb and if you don't get it down early enough it could look like a girl but it could be a boy....even with 3D. Good luck! BTW...the 3D ultrasound is well worth it, but from my experience it doesn't show very well until at least 27 weeks. Mostly because the baby still looks skeletol.
- Very Accurate! I havent gone to mine yet but I specifically asked the lady over the phone she said it is 100% you yourself will actually be able to see the babys genitals very clearly although position is another thing that might get in the way, every place i have looked at says if they are unable to get a clear picture you get to come back free of charge. If you look up baby gender pictures by 3D ultrasound in google, or even on their website you can physically tell whether it is a girl or boy, everything is 3D so its as if you are looking at it in real life. I am going for the same reason you are, I have my routine US on Aug 22, 2008.. and just to be sure they told me the right gender before getting all excited and bought everything I figured I should have a back up plan! Goodluck and Congrats!
