Best Dell pc/Customized pc for Autocad 2008 and 3D modeling.?

Hey guys, I am looking to buy a new PC from dell to run Auto cad and other similar programs. I have been told to get 3-4 gigs, something to do with Quadro (not sure what), a 512 mb video card and a hard drive with 10,000 rpms?? I honestly have no idea about any of this, I was hoping you guys could help me find/customize the perfect Autocad pc without me getting completely ripped off. Thanks a bunch for reading.

  1. AutoCAD? You will want a nice Q9650 CPU. Rendering is tough work. Why a Quadro? Are you using the box as a server? No matter what GPU you get, you want it to be state of the art. Look at a 280 or an ATI 4870X2. Build your own...and forget boxmakers.
  2. You will definitely want to get a Quadro because they are built for 3D rendering and will perform a lot better in AutoCAD than a gaming card such as one person suggested above. It is very wise to get a hard drive that spins fast. 10000rpm is a very high speed, there are some 300GB hard drives that go up to 15000rpm but they cost A LOT. Let me suggest what to get for a medium budget workstation. A good Xeon processor DDR2 FBDIMM memory Quadro graphics card, preferably two Quadro cards And of course 1 or 2 10000rpm hard drives. Hope this helped you.
  3. they guys who have already answered your question are good, but I personally would advice some DDR3 memory, which will decrease loading time and make your multitasking easier. a con here is that you need a DDR3 mobo. so you have to pay attention to that when your picking a mobo. and another suggestion is to check if your local computer seller makes custom computers. then you can go cheapest. but otherwise the XPS 650 is the cheapest computer that can give you your needs.
