  1. The galaxy isn't mapped out good enough for there to be a good 3-D model, there would be to many gaps in the info.
  2. http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewpr.html?pid=20414 might be better ?
  3. The problem with 3D Models is the radius...What radius would you like to consider??? The best one I have seen is: http://www.atlasoftheuniverse
  4. Better is subjective. I used one from the Linux For Astronomy disk. It had the Hiparcos data, and could be used to visualize stars in 3d, with rotations and such. It was more of a plot than sexy graphics. I think it is called starplot. Zooming in to the Sun and nearby stars, you could get a feel for what's near by. Zooming out so that there are alot of stars, i thought i could see a spiral arm. The data limits the program to stars that the tiny satellite could see.
