Doppler effect?? Stereoscopy?? Science fair?

Can you please define the Doppler effect and stereoscopy in simple terms? I can't really understand it... And in your opinion, which one would make a better science fair project? Thanks. =]

  1. The Doppler effect is the distortion of sound and electro magnetic waves when they are approaching or retreating. When they are approaching the wave lengths seem shortened; when they are retreating, they appear longer. In sound, this is displayed when a train, for example, is rapidly passing you. As it approaches, the sound seems higher pitched, then, as it passes and retreats, the pitch sounds lower. In astronomy, scientists can calculate the velocity of a star, and whether it is approaching us or retreating, according to the perceived colour of the star.
