What week can 3d ultrasound determine the sex?

My doctor told me I can come in any time after 20 weeks for my only ultrasound (2D) to determine the sex of our baby. I'd like to spend a little extra money to find out sooner, but was wondering at what week i'm pretty sure to find out with a 3D ultrasound? I know it's not for sure that i'll be able to if the baby isn't in right position and yada yada but when, in your experiences has it been far enough along to go?

1. most 3d places have restricitons on when they do ultrasounds and i think they do not like to do them before you have the 20 week ultrasound done for checking abnormalities. Call around and check with them...i think the sex is determined at around 17 weeks but i could be wrong - i would spend any amount of money to know the sex earlier but we can't get an ultrasound until 18 weeks... good luck
2. When I was preggers with my daughter, we didn't get the 3D ultrasound until I was about 30 weeks pregnant. Most of my friends got the 3D between 20-25 weeks, but I can tell you that my pics had so much more detail. Not only that, but our daughter came out looking just like her pics...where as my friends didn't. But I do think that you have to wait until you are at least 20 weeks along.
