how does the 3d unltra sound work?

how far along do you have to be to get an 3D ultra sound. Do you have to pay for it? How much?

  1. In my experience they just did it while I was having my regular ultrasound. I think if they have the ability they just do it. I actually didn't like the picture, it looked like a little baby made of clay. Edited: Seeing the other answers I guess I should add that I was over 35 and so some tests were automatic for me through my health insurance.
  2. I know that you have to pay for it, and I've heard that it's not very good for the baby
  3. idk exactly how far you have to be,but unless your dr orders one,typically you do have to pay for it at a different ultrasound clinic. I know with my last pregnancy,the ultrasound tech just converted over to 3D so I could see. I thought it was awesome!
  4. to get good pictures from the 3D or 4D, you want to be at least 30 weeks. Yes, you usually have to pay for it as most OB/GYNs don't do it. Depending on where you live, you can get it done for anywhere from $90-$150
  5. you usually have to pay for it. i paid 150 for mine, but mine is a 4d ultrasound. the only difference in 4d i think is that its like a video on the 4d and just still pics on 3d, im not sure though. it doesnt matter how far along you are but at my doctors office you have to be at least 29 weeks for them do to one for money, im sure that if you NEEDED one before 29 weeks they would do it, or if you just really wanted one before 29 weeks. but up until 29 weeks they dont really have much fat on them =]

Here In canada the one in my city wont do ultra sounds until your at least 20 weeks (they said because your baby is bigger and more quiet so they can get better clearer pictures) However other places Ive heard woman say they've had them done sooner like 16 weeks. Here they have packages you can get, so many pictures, find out gender, ect Anywhere from 100-400! Im pretty sure its the exact same thing as a normal ultra sound except more advance picture so it shows up 3d/4d
