3D - 2

Should I get a 4D ultrasound to determine the baby's sex and for keepsake pictures?

My OB is only allowing me one more ultrasound since I am NOT high risk and I have to wait until I am 21 weeks to see what sex the baby is. We talked to my OB about getting two 3D/4D ultrasounds while I am pregnant and she said she was fine with that since it is safe, in fact she said many of her patients do it. Should I make an appointment for my first 3D/4D ultrasound when I am 16 weeks? I can find out what the baby is 5 weeks earlier and see the baby in action. I get the ultrasound along with a 20 minute DVD of our baby and 15 pictures for $89 total. PLUS I get $50 off my next visit. What do you think? I am excited to find out what it is and would like to see it move around since regular ultrasounds don’t show much detail. * I am 14 weeks now *

  1. You won't get much detail at 16 weeks. I would wait until at least 21-24 weeks as you will be able to see so much more and have a better remembrance.
  2. If you want to spend that money on that instead of buying something for the baby that is fine. I just don't understand why people cannot just wait till the baby is born. No one wants to be surprised anymore on what they are having.
  3. I would wait until 20-25 weeks! Make it worth your money. The baby will be much more developed at that point. Plus Pregnancy is all about waiting:) Congrats
  4. The 4d pictures are really neat. My OB can actualy do it in there office and I got one of my first baby just because they wanted to have a good pic of the baby. I also just got one yesterday of my baby. I am 10 weeks and she just wanted me to have something neat. There nice to have to keepsake books. But i would wait a few weeks. You will get more out of it.
  5. I didn't get a 3D/4D u/s done. They won't do one unless there are some serious problems...if you want to pay up the wazoo to get one then by all means...I think its awsome to get one but i am not all about spending 200 something dollars on and U/S when i get the 2D one done for FREE and still get to know the sex... btw i am 23 weeks pregnant today and found out 2 weeks ago I am having a boy. That was done with a 2D u/s Good luck with your choice.
  6. i would wait awhile, then get it done
  7. You probably won't be able to find out the sex at 16 weeks...I'm sorry to say that...but it's true. Pretty much before 20 weeks is just a guess....There is a reason the OB's make you wait until 21 weeks! I went at 17.5 weeks and they couldn't say because it was just too early. I was so disappointed! But they were able to tell me at 21.5 weeks. I know you probably hate to hear that it will take that long...but unfortunately pregnancy is all about waiting! You'll get some good pics and videos at 16 weeks but you likely won't get to find out the gender...and if they do tell you it will be "well, I think it's a boy" or "I think it might be a girl"
  8. I got a package that includes TWO visits with a 30 minute scan, 8 color photos, 8 black and whites, a DVD and all still pics on a cd at EACH visit so I now have a whole gallery of photos! It is awsome..however, as far as timing goes, the best time to se the baby is actually later around 26 weeks. Before that time, they don't have much meat on them and they look kinda scary. If you want to see what he/she will actually look like (facial features) then it is best to wait even longer. I had one scan at 26 weeks and it was very cool, but I had the second at 32 weeks and it was much more accurate in regards to her actual features at birth. Also, with my package, they set up a web site for me to share the photos and a journal and all kinds of neat stuff....if you'd like to see it, send me an e mail and I will send you the link. Good luck and Congrats!
  9. Here's my advice. Have your regular anatomy scan at 21 weeks. Then when you get further along, like around 28-30 do the 3d/4d to confirm. This is what I did. I went for my 3d/4d scan at 27 weeks and she was STILL a bit small to get a great scan. We saw her face and all and was sorta able to confirm her sex. The tech wasn't 100% sure though. So imagine, if I was 27 weeks and she wasn't able to get a good pic of her sex, then being 16 weeks, I would imagine would be worst. I am going back in a few weeks (I'm 29 weeks now) to get another scan done. My little one had her hands and feet infront of her face for the most part. But dont spend the money until you know you'll get a good pic of him/her
  10. I would get the 3D whenever you want, we had one done at 16 weeks and it was awesome! BRING KLEENEX- we cried like big babies when we saw our sons face for the first time. It was a fabulous experience! He looked so cute!! At 14 weeks you can see the labial folds of a girl on ANY ultrasound, they're already developed at 14 weeks, so the absence of the labial folds means it's a boy. We have a perinatologist in our family. Our son looked the same at 16 weeks as he did at 22, 28, and 36 weeks- just bigger each time! high risk pregnancy so they looked at him frequently. If you have the money to do it, go for it, especially since they're offering you $50 off the next visit. Being able to play the DVD for your family and friends is great! Since you've already seen the baby you can watch their faces as they see him/her for the first time- and have the Kleenex ready for them, too. At home I took the 3D images, scanned them into the computer and uploaded them to shutterfly.com We had prints of the photos made and sent them to everyone, too. As a mommy, you can never have too many photos of your baby! Best of luck to you and your new baby. Take care.
  11. I got the 3d/4d ultrasound with my first pregnancy. It was great! Definetly worth every penny. Now that Im on my second, I already have an appointment TODAY! to find out the sex of my baby. Im only 17 weeks along, but am really anxious to know. I will probably go again at 28 weeks like I did with the last. Check out my daughters 3d picture at the link below.
  12. i would have to say that there is nothing more exciting than finally finding out the sex of the baby! me and my husband got to find out the sex early (15 weeks) with a regular ultrasound b/c i'm high risk and i'm telling you what...i don't know how other women only get 2 ultrasounds! i have had one every month...but i couldn't wait to find out the sex of our baby (which is a boy)! it's like waiting to open all your Christmas gifts on Easter, know what i mean? i would do it IF i had the kind of money to do it, but that's b/c i hate waiting on surprises, lol! i think it's ok to go for it b/c it's not a waste of money...you're calming your anxious heart and getting some very nice keep sakes! it's a blessing to be able to see your little on move around :) if you want to do it bad enough, then go for it!! (only if you have the money to do so)
