How long does it take to make a short 3D animated clip?
Also how long would it take to actually learn how to make a 3d animation?

- It depends on what you're animating. If you're just doing a rotating logo, it might take less time than something more elaborate. You would need to build (model) whatever is in your animation (setting, characters, etc.), add color, texture, lighting. Then you would add a "camera" and use keyframes to animate whatever it is that you want to move around in your clip. Then you have to render the clip (depending on the detail of your animation and the setting you choose, this could take a while). A very simple animation can be done in an hour. You can use programs like Maxon Cinema 4D, Autodesk Maya (geared toward movies) or 3D StudioMax (geared toward games). I took a 3D animation class at a community college, and we were modeling stuff right away and creating animations before the end of the semester. I recommend taking a class like this - you'll learn the basics of 3D animation in a matter of weeks. However, if you are a fast learner, you can also pick it up at your own pace through online tutorials at places like lynda.com.
