- Rigging is the process of creating a custom sized skeleton for your characters purportions, this would pertain to(2) bipedal for human type characters, (4)quadraped for cats dogs horses or four legged animals, (8)octopeds for eight legged freaks and the like. Skinning is the process of attaching your characters mesh to the rigg you have created so that when the rigg moves or you move the rigg via inverse kinmatics, the skin (aka mesh) will move with the rigg(aka bones) to create character animation.
