Will there be a time when we don't need glasses for 3D movies?
Or atleast where the glasses isn't "tinted" Although it's not a big deal for some people I don't like how sometimes the tint of the glasses somewhat "dulls" the colors and visuals, even if it's in 3D.

- There are 3-D glasses based on cross polarized images that don't change tint. They're been around a long time. No glasses has been done too. You look through a window that projects a hologram movie
- Technically, we only have stereo vision, which is not the same as true 3D. Stereo vision with no glasses?---not in your lifetime. Each pixel on the screen would have to project the entire scene toward the viewer. That would be true 3D. Holograms, so far, can only be done in one color. Conceivably, three hologams sandwiched together could be used, but I haven't heard of this being done. If Dr. R has a link for that claim, I like to see it. Polaroid glasses have been used for stereo vision in theaters since the 1950's with excellent results. This technology is not yet available for high definition TV. My Samsung BD-P1500 BluRay player and LN4650A1F TV do a very poor job of separating the green from the red and blue (at least with Journey to the Center of the Earth). There is some left image visible to the right eye and vice versa. Hopefully, this will be corrected with future firmware upgrades. LCD glasses for TV are promising. When the left image is shown, the right lens shuts off, and vice versa. This technology is in industrial and research use, but is too expensive for commerical applications. Virtual Reality and telepresence helmets are the ultimate, so far, in true 3D. They have a separate screen for each eye. They track head and body movements so that the scene remains stationary as you turn your head. To my knowledge, they have not yet prefect a system for tracking eye movements rapidly enough and precisely enough to provide a true feeling of being there. Dolby is committed to developing better stereo vision for TV. Hopefully, they'll come thru for us in a couple of years.
- The only thing I know of right now is a television that phillips has developed that does not require glasses. It is called wow and each pixel has tiny mirrors that give each eye a different image. Also I read you have to be so far from the televisions. They have been out for about a year. Don't know of any non glasses 3d for theater showings.
