how big of an sd card will my car stereo recognize?

i have a dual brand car stereo from best buy. it has a usb slot on the front for a thumb drive. it will play mp3's right off the thumb drive. i am using a usb micro sd card reader with a 4 gig micro sd card. question is how big of a card can the stereo recognize. example, my digital camera will read up to 2 gig. if i put a 4 gig card in my camera it says 2 gig. the instructions don't say anything.
