- Check the local pawn shops especially the bigger ones with greater inventory. The economy has forced many people to sell/pawn lots of good stuff and it makes for great deals for someone looking to save a buck.
- Check Frys Electronics or BestBuy for the camera. Try Leo's Audio for the mic - though unlikely they will have it. Fry's and BestBuy won't... Heads up on that camera - it has a mic jack, but no manual audio control. When you plug in the mic, you over-ride the auto-mic gain, but there is no gain control. No manual audio control is a big deal if the audio is really loud or really soft. And I don't think it has a standard sized accessory shoe, but a camera bracket (Fry's) remedies that if you want the mic camera-mounted. Cheapest camcorders with mic jack AND manual audio control are the Canon HV20/HV30/HV40 and the Sony HDR-HC9. They are miniDV tape based. Another option is to get a field recorder (Zoom, Edirol, Sony, Marantz, M-Audio, among others) and when you edit the video, replace the audio captured by the camcorder with that which was captured by the field recorder. Firewire cables are available at Frys. Good editing application? For what computer? FinalCut (Express or Pro) or iMovieHD at the Apple Store. Sony Vegas (Windows) can be downloaded, I think.
