Advantages/Disadvantages of a Shell model versus standard model in 3D CAD?

What are some reasons for choosing a shell model versus making a standard solidworks or other model? Conversely, why wouldn't you use a shell model for everything? Thanks

1. the disadvantage of shell modeling is that if u require to section the part it ll not be visualised in that one....shell models cannot be rendered , shell model is the 3d form of 2d objects but not a solid actually.
