my strength and career focus, is everyone right, I'm wrong?

I'm working in an architectural firm 2 yrs after getting my master degree. I like architecture and always wanted to be a good designer. but I'm not from the States, of course I can't compete with native speakers in terms of language and understanding subtle meanings or interact with client. but i'm good at design and I draw well. my technical skill is not good because my company always let me do renderings and pretty dwgs instead of tech dwgs. I talked to them but they didn't really trust that I can learn fast.they think I should focus on drawing instead of technical stuff. but in order to become a good designer, I need to learn tech stuff. now I'm starting to doubt about it, sure it's not my strength, should I just focus on my drawing skills and become a good renderer (who makes a lot of money too)? or should I try working on my tech skills and hope one day I'll become a good designer? I know changing job will work better but it's not an option for today's economy.

  1. Do whatever makes you happy, and I agree - with today's economy if the job pays well keep it for as long as you can. Focus on what you can for now, but continue to seek out the extra tech stuff from your bosses when you can. Also try doing some of the tech stuff (samples etc) on your own time and show your boss. Not being from the States could put you at a disadvantage at that job/company, but keep trying and also try to pick up more of the slang and terms that are used there that you may not be familiar with. If you have someone you trust there, ask them about terms etc as you hear them to help give you a better understanding.
