How do I import an Adobe Illustator file into an AutoCad program?

I want to turn one of my pdf drawings I made in Illustrator into 3D. I downloaded a bunch of free CAD softwares but they don't allow you to import PDFs. Is there a program you suggest? I don't actually have the program "AutoCad". I've been downloading free ones and none have been capable of importing these files. Is there a free type of CAD program that you know of that would do this? I don't want to put money into something when I've never seen it work before.

  1. Convert the Image into a number of different formats. TIFF PCX PSD GIF JPG and all the others you can. DXF is the best. Once you have the drawing image in all the different formats you can think of, try to import them into your Autocad. Some will be good. Some will be bad. DXF is the Autocad preferred format for drawing exchange. PhotoShop can store in DXF. Drawing Exchange Format.
  2. The best is to export to DXF using illustrator - autocad will open and read a DXF natively If you don't have illustrator anymore, try using a program called GSView and a plugin called pstoedit. These two together will allow you to export a vector PDF to DXF. As for the other formats recommended by the previous poster, they are raster formats pretty much worthless for making cad drawings in a CAD program. As a last resort you can do that and then trace the image, but at that point you may be better off starting from scratch.
