Why has the sound on my computer has suddenly stopped working!?

The sound on my computer was working fine up until recently when I turned it on and the sound wasn't working. I don't have speakers so I listen through headphones, but the headphones aren't broken. When I opened Xear 3d audio configuration and clicked the tester sounds, the sound was working fine through the headphones but when I listen via the internet or itunes, there seems to be no sound. I've tried just about everything, is there anyone out there who knows what the problem may be and how to fix it? Would appreciate it a lot =]

  1. General Sound Troubleshooting http://www.5starsupport.com/faq/sound.htm#1-6 http://wahiduddin.net/troubleshooting/trouble_sound.htm
  2. I've had this happen before - it seems to be fixed by reloading the drivers for the sound card and/or anything else noise related.
  3. try reloading the sound card drivers but first right click on the volume icon and check the sound properties it could be that there is a wrong setting .
  4. double click on speaker icon in taskbar up all levels. or change mixer device in option tab properties tab and look at all device and their vol there.
  5. Well it could be that you've muted your browser. open an internet browser window, then goto the volume icon in the bottom right of the screen. Left or right click (depending on ur opertaing system, it doesnt matter which on vista, but i cant remember which on XP.) then click mixer. You should see a bar with ur browser name above it, if the bar is at the bottom or the symbol underneath is muted then unmute and it should work. If that isnt the cause, then u'll have to tell us which browser ur using. Good luck hope this helped.
