Is this a mid range decent gaming rig?

I was just wondering if this was a decent gaming rig. Mainly I want to play warhammer online. The specs are as follows: Case ( Nzxt Alpha Gaming Tower Case w/420W Power Supply Black ) Power Supply ( 600 Watt -- Power Supply SLI Ready ) Processor ( AMD Athlon™ X2 6000+ Dual-Core CPU w/ HyperTransport Technology ) Processor Cooling ( [=== Silent ===] Extreme-Performance AMD CPU Cooling Fan System Kit Silent & Overclocking Proof = Maximum cooling efficiency for quietness and performance ) Motherboard ( [SLI] Asus M3N72-D NVIDIA nForce 750a SLI Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, IEEE 1394, USB 2.0, Dual PCI-E/HDMI MB ) Memory ( 4 GB [1 GB X4] DDR2-800 PC6400 Memory Module Corsair-Value or Major Brand ) Video Card ( NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT 1GB w/DVI + TV Out Video ) Video Card Brand ( === High Performance === eVGA Brand Video Card Powered by NVIDIA ) Hard Drive ( 320 GB HARD DRIVE [Serial-ATA-II, 3Gb, 7200 RPM, 16M Cache] ) CD/DVD Drive ( 16x DVD-ROM Drive Black ) CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive ( [Lightscribe Technology] LG 22X Dual Format/Double Layer DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW Drive Black ) Sound Card ( 3D Premium Surround Sound Onboard ) Speaker System ( 600W PMPO 3 PCS Super Bass Subwoofer Speaker System ) Network Card ( Intel Pro 10/100/1000 Network Card ) Keyboard ( Wolfking Timber Wolf Gaming Keyboard ) Operation System ( Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium) Basically, one of my biggest concerns is if the Processor, motherboard, and graphics card are all compatible. The prebuilt system came with a phenom 4 processor and an HD 4850 graphics card. the motherboard was not changed so i'm assuming its compatible. I couldn't really find any straight answers on the internet. thanks in advance for the help edit: I had a typo, i am getting the 64 bit vista Also, thanks for the great advice. The only problem i saw with the HD 4850 was game compatibility issues. Also, is the 9800gtx 512mb + price worth getting over the 9800gt 1gb? By the way, most intel pcs I've seen are a bit out of my price range. The listed specs are $820 or so at Ibuypower. Thanks again. forgot one last thing. Should I go with the Onboard LAN Network (Gb or 10/100) or Intel Pro 10/100/1000 Network Card

  1. That's a low end basic. There's a definite issue in using 4G of Ram with a 32 bit OS. That applies to any 32 bit OS. Intel's Core2 Duo processors outperform the top of the line AMD processors right now. Why buy a high end AMD when you can spend less and get more power from a middle of the road Intel? 2. Looks pretty good. ASUS makes a very stable mobo, and should be very compatible with the hardware that your using. Everything should work o.k. on the mobo. Here's the specs for the mobo and if you look at the web site they do have a review also. A good dual-core processor is fine, sink your money into a real good video card. http://reviews.cnet.com/motherboards/asus-m3n72-d-motherboard/4507-3049_7-33214281.html?tag=mncol;psum
  3. It's all compatible, but your video card is weak. Either go for a 9800GTX+ or the Radeon 4850 it originally came with, both are significantly faster than a 9800GT. Since it's an SLI motherboard, your only dual-card options are Nvidia, but you can use any SINGLE card you want. Of course if you're not planning on running two cards, get a single-card motherboard and put the savings towards a Radeon 4870 (just slightly slower than the GTX 280, but costs $200 less). ** Update** Yes I'd take the 9800GTX+ 512mb over the 9800GT 1gb- performance trumps the amount of onboard video RAM, and the 9800GTX+ beats the 4850 at low-medium resolutions. If you've money to burn, a pair of 9088GTX+ cards in SLI outperform the Radeon 4870X2. See the chart below.. the 9800GT doesn't even make the cut. As for onboard LAN vs a card... Theoretically a seperate card might improve speed a little, but I doubt it would be a noticable amount. You'd pick up more fps by using a soundcard (even a $30 Audigy) instead of the onboard.
  4. its a good computer, but i would recommend a different processor. depending on your price range, i would recommend a intel core 2 quad q6600 or any of the core 2 extreme quad core line. in addition to what the other guy said, if your operating system is a 32 bit, then you will only be able to utilize slightly more than 3 gb of ram. if you have a 64 bit os, then you will be fine overall, its a solid machine that needs only a little tweeking to greatly improve it.
