MG ZR 1.4 (105ps) 3d?

My son is thinking about buying an MG ZR 1.4 3d (05) (Rover 25 rebodied)and was wondering about price (from a dealer), what kind of faults and how easy to get parts. In fact any recommendations would be appreciated. Would it be a good buy - Many thanks

  1. i would take my money elsewhere the build quality is simply disgraceful whatever you are thinking of spending double it ,because that is what it will end up costing you there are so many better cars in the same category ,get out there and look around ,the worst have seen is actual body parts falling off. please don't buy one ,no car company goes under without a good reason look at the seat leon cupra it looks very similar but is far far better or an older beemer or vee dub or even a honda civic the older civic type r's are better than the new ones PLEASE DONT GET ONE IM NOT KIDDING YOU WOULD BE BETTER OFF SETTING FIRE TO A BIG PILE OF MONEY
  2. very soft head (aluminum) that leads to the head gasket giving alot of trouble!!
  3. Independent dealer price with average miles of 30,000 should be £3,395. The build quality isn't the best, but they're a good fun car - there's no problem with spares availability, the biggest issue with the 1.4 K-series engine is regular head gasket failure, although it's very simple to fit modified gaskets to prevent this happening. I've bought & sold a few, they're generally a good car as long as they're looked after & the head gasket modification work is done. 4. He would actually be better off getting a Rover 25 ie.This came with the 1.4 (103)ps engine. The zr version was a little faster but not much and the insurance for a zr of this size will be quite expensive. Many of the small engined zr`s were thrashed by their young owners because they handle very well and this is where the overheating and head gasket problems stem from. The k series engine is pretty good but it needs to be warmed up carefully first to avoid warping and gasket failure.Don`t listen to the scaremongers. If rover/mg were that bad i wouldn`t be driving one today.
