- You get special glasses, better than a traditional 3D movie...it really feels like you're there...very cool!
- Imax movies typically utilize a much larger screen. Imax 3D movies use two different lenses during the 3D process for depth reasons. Moviegoers wear special glasses in order to witness the 3D effects. However, the 3D effects don't extend past the screen, which is a setback and sets this apart from other methods. IMAX enhances the theatergoing experience in that it's more realistic and looks three-dimensional.
- IMAX is shot on larger format film. Most movies that are still shot with film are shot on 35mm, the same size that goes in most still cameras. IMAX uses 70 mm film. That means higher definition. you can see a lot more detail. You can do all of the 3d stuff on regular film, but project a regular movie on a huge IMAX screen and it's gonna be blurry. Obviously the cameras and projectors used for IMAX are much larger. So basically, it's just hi-def film making that looks really neat on a big screen.
