Can you explain an IMAX theater to me?
What is an imax theater? Ive gone to an IMAX 3D movie. And ive gone to an IMAX DOME movie like the ones they have in museums. But when a theater says it has a movie on IMAX like for example THe day the earth stood still, whats the differance?? Is the screen like a normal screen? Do you have to where glasses like a 3d movie? Or is it just a better resolution but with the normal rectangular screen?? Thanks

- The screen is huge, the volume is to decibels so high only dogs can hear it. It is horrible.
- You don't wear 3-D glasses unless it says it's in 3-D. It's just a much bigger screen with more speakers and it's definitely not better resolution. I want to see "The Day The Earth Stood Still" there too. If you go, e-mail me and let me know how it was 'cause it's a 1 1/2 hr. drive and if it's not worth it, I don't want to go. Thanks.
- It's a really huge screen way bigger than a normal theater. It's just an option to see a movie on an even bigger screen than normal. But it is way cooler than a normal theater; and no you don't wear glasses unless it says to.
- i think its the image itself, like the movie is made to look like theres 3 images at once (kinda like the way astigmatism people see) and the blue and red glasses make it look like one image... so it gives the 3-D effect. its not the screen, its just the picture itself.
- The resolution is MUCH higher. Imax uses a 70mm print with a resolution of 70 megapixels (10000x7000 pixels). A standard IMAX screen is 72 ft wide and 53 ft high, but can be larger. Imax is not 3D unless stated.
