How do I build a 3D model of an atom?

I know that you can glue foam balls in the middle as the nucleus and then use foam balls for the electrons as well but are there any good ways to create an outer ring to attach the electrons to? How would I attach a rings of electrons? I need help!

1. Take a piece of wire that is stiff, but not stiff enough so it doesn't bend. Then you can poke it through the foam balls. or you could poke holes with something sharp wrapp some foil so it is like wire, and loop it through!
