- http://www.csiro.au/resources/pfky.html ? I Googled 'dna model template' and that came up, and there were a lot more sites with templates too if that doesn't work. My biology class had to make paper DNA models, but the results were....mixed. It was hard- most of them were quite wonky, but it can be done, with care. And then, you can stick loads together to make a long chain. Or you could try making a model out of a rigid but bendy wire-ish material like pipe-cleaners? Long straws/straws put together?
- I did this in HS, what you need: -styrofoam balls -lollipop sticks (look better then popsicle sticks) -string -needle with a large eye -4 bag ties (like the ones they put on bread bags.. these are also available at most grocery stores for free)) -scissors -glue -paint (optional) -a large box.. I think I went to (check your local craft store) You can paint the box if you'd like and paint the styrofoam balls in different colors to represent (A,T,G,C). Let this dry and cut 2 pieces of string into the length of the box. Using the needle string the styrofoam balls onto the string, equally spaced on both strings. Use a dab of glue on the top and bottom of the balls to secure it in place. Once dry use the lollipop sticks to create the "ladder". Do this on the floor and secure the sticks with the glue, allow the glue to dry before proceeding. Cut 2 holes into the top of the box and the bottom of the box (equally spaced). Use 2 ties to secure the top half of your ladder to the top of the box, secure with glue. Then make one or two twists in the ladder and use 2 more ties to secure the bottom half of your double helix.. also secure with glue. You now have a 3D DNA model!
