3D modeling program for making a planet (jupiter) with houses and such on it. Extra features would be nice?

I just want to make a model of the planet and put houses on it and zoom in... Eventually even zoom into a house... Any free downloadable programs for something like that? I tried truespace but it confused me... I would be nice if I could have it rotate too...

1. The best free (opensource) 3D animation program available would definately be BLENDER. http://www.blender.org/ It has most of the features of all the other commercial 3d animation programs such as Maya, Houdini, Lightwave, and 3DSMax.
