3D - 2

What major to choose for 3D animation?

I want to go into 3D animation (video games, movies, etc.) but I'm not sure what major to pick in college. Do they actually have 3D animation majors? I haven't seen any yet. Thanks in advance.

  1. If you're going into 3D Animation for the entertainment industry, the number one thing to be proficient at is art. You can always learn software and programs but only those who have a strong artistic sense will be successful. Major in film, or in the arts. Get your compositional skills up. You may not necessarily need to go to school for this but it doesn't hurt and does provide discipline to keep working at it. Many art/film schools have course tracks that focus on 3d animation as well. Go to your local bookstore and grab some 3D magazines. There's almost always an article or two about how to get a career going in 3D. Most of all, start doing 3D now! There's many free 3D programs, trials, and student priced ones out there. Make sure you like doing it. Good luck.
